Kurt Braunohler is a comedian originally from New Jersey who started the Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen in 2005. Since then he has been on a variety of programs including @midnight, Adam Devine’s House Party, Bob’s Burgers, Bunk!,Chelsea Lately, Delocated, Drunk History, Getting Doug with High, Human Giant, and Jon Benjamin Has a Van to name a few. Furthermore, Kurt has performed his standup on on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Conan, and Late Night with Seth Meyers, and John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show. He also has a half-hour on Comedy Central and last year released his first album “How Do I Land?”. In addition, he hosts The K Ohle with Kurt Braunohler and most recently last month he  drove a 1600 lb, 14 ft high double-sided derriere (literally a massive butt) across the U.S. much to the delight of those who saw it for the pilot of his show Better-Faster-Dumber. Kurt is such a versatile comedian and I was lucky enough to be able to ask him a few questions before the High Plains Comedy Festival.

How are you?
I’m good man, how are you?
I’m good, thanks.

Right off the bat, if Kristin Schaal is a horse what would you be?
Oh. I would be the farmer.

You have been a guest on Getting Doug with High, and the High Plains Fest is in the Mile High city. If you could smoke with anyone throughout history who would it be, and what would you do for munchies?
It would be Jesus and then we would eat… him.
Man that’s harsh!
It was his idea in the first place *laughs*.

You also had a web series called Roustabout where you jet skied from Chicago to New Orleans in order to raise money to donate animals to Africa. Is there a place where people can still donate?
Yeah you can always go to heifer.org to donate!
How many animals were you able to end up sending?
We sent 500 goats and 1000 chickens.

You used Indiegogo and Kickstarter for two of your last big projects. Do you think you’ll keep crowdsourcing to fund your projects?
No I’m done with the crowdsourcing, now I have more options available to getting things done. There’s a lot of logistics involved. I prefer to get companies to pay for it, it makes things easier.

About a month ago you drove a giant butt cross-country for your pilot. What can you tell us about your pilot? Also, who is the biggest butt you know?
Well its called Better-Dumber-Faster. It’s about making the world a better place by using absurdity. For example the pilot its about making waiting better. The original idea was to take a freight train across America and interact at railroad crossings, you know where people have to sit and wait for the train for 5 of 10 minutes. But then at the last second the fright train refused to take the butt and so we had to scramble and we ended up driving the butt ourselves.

Better-Dumber-Faster butt

Speaking of butts, who is the biggest but you know?
Oh that’s a good question. Right now… the Fat Jew
*I laugh* I think I know but why him?
He steals jokes and I think he’s a fucking asshole *laughs*

If I read correctly you were recently attacked on stage back in the New Englandish area? What happened?
Oh it was after the show and it was just a lunatic. Actually the opening act ended up pulling the guy off of me because there wasn’t any security.

Has it affected how you perform in any way?
It made me more purposeful with my sets. It you’re going to get attacked you want it to be for a purpose *laughs*

Recently, on your podcast The K Ohle with Kurt Braunohler, you did a Get Lost! segment where you blindfolded 50 strangers, put them on a bus, and then they had to find their way back to the starting point. Are there plans to do another live Get Lost! with an audience? Would you also consider doing live segments of Pet-o-philia and/or The Boat Show?
There are no plans right now; Get Lost is a lot of work with insurance but I would be open to more in the future.

How about the other two?
I did one in the past at the San Francisco Sketchfest with Boat Show, Pet-o-philia, and another one that I can’t remember.

How has moving from New York City to Los Angeles changed Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen or has it?It really hasn’t changed which really is nice.
Did you prefer one city to the other?

No I really like where it is in LA and its comfortable and feels like… we’re in our own place like back in Brooklyn.
Have you had a chance to talk with Sasha Baron Cohen since your Bruno audition?

No I haven’t. I’ve never even seen him since the audition.
Did he know that you were a comedian or was he expecting a serious performance?
I honestly do not know.

Is Penelope Princess of Pets, over for good? What about Kurt Braunohler’s World Wild of Animals?
Pretty much, I mean, Kristen and I might write a movie at some point. I love World Wild of Animals a lot but um no one ever really liked it. You just make a lot of stuff that sticks.
Is there anything in particular you loved or thought would stick?
All of it *laughs* I’ve really liked all of my projects but I gotta keep on trying.

Last question, Red or Green?
Green.
